Isle of Skye Tours All Skye days will take you on a circular route, leaving Inverness to travel down Loch Ness, and past the Five Sisters of Kintail mountains. The return will be by Strathcarron, Achnasheen and Loch Garve. There are two castles on this circuit – Urquhart Castle and Eilean Donan Castle. There will be time to visit the one of your choice and photo stop at the other. Much of the Isle of Skye lies quite distant from Inverness, so you have two main types of Skye tour, after crossing the bridge to the island.
Eilean Donan Castle, Wester Ross (sometimes called "the most romantic castle in the Highlands)
There is the short (eight to nine hour) tour, taking in South or Mid-Skye. Your three options on the short tour (from which you can choose, even on the day) are the Sleat Peninsula (the Garden of Skye); the Elgol Peninsula; or the island capital - Portree. The short tour runs year-round. Then there is the long (ten to eleven hour) tour. This is only available between 10 March and 20 October each year (because of daylight). Your three options on the long tour (from which you can choose, even on the day) are the Trotternish Peninsula (the most scenic area); Dunvegan Castle (home of the Clan Macleod); or Talisker Distillery (which does need to be booked in advance).
